On paper, the trip from Laleham to Mitcham was doable even with traffic though lengthy queues through queues on the road between Kempton Park and Hampton Court made me wonder if I’d make it. In the end, I got to Imperials Fields with 10 minutes to spare. The game and ground made the trip worthwhile.

In a classic game of two halves, relegation-threatened Carshalton took a two-goal lead before the interval, only for Tooting’s leading scorer Paul Vines to score twice after the break to earn his side a point.

The stadium, opened in 2002 on the site of a former Crystal Palace training ground, was impressive with a large 612-seat stand and substantial terracing behind each goal.
