This 3-00 pm kick-off was the first leg of a May Day Bank Holiday double. Blackwood, the new 2009/10 Midland Combination Division 3 champions, made it 25 wins out of 28 league games with a 2-1 victory over a lively Coventry Amateurs side who, 16 days ago, inflicted one of only two league defeats suffered all season by the table toppers. On an afternoon that had rain, hail, sunshine and a blustery cold crosswind, Blackwood took the lead with a comical own goal in the 13th minute. They made hard work of adding a second which didn’t come until the 84th minute and Coventry quickly pulled a goal back to make the final few minutes interesting. Blackwood’s attack was led by former Stafford Rangers reserve Ross Clarke.
